Margot has worked in civil litigation for over 25 years across numerous Canadian jurisdictions. She is a member of the Bar in both Ontario and Nova Scotia, and a former member of the Bar in New Brunswick. She is also a member of ADRIO (Alternative Dispute Resolution Institute of Ontario).
Margot has extensive training in alternative dispute resolution, including through Osgoode Hall Law School, Osgoode Professional Development, St. Mary's University, and Harvard University's Program On Negotiation.
Margot has worked on a wide range of cases involving personal injury, occupiers' liability, property damage, subrogation, professional liability, product liability, insurance coverage, and class actions. She has participated in countless mediations, arbitrations, pretrials, and judicial settlement conferences across North America on behalf of plaintiffs and defendants, including as counsel, as a principal decision-maker, and as claims director. Margot has also mentored lawyers and adjusters who participate in alternative dispute resolution. While she has been a tough advocate for her clients, she has always maintained a collegial and productive working relationship with opposing counsel and their clients in pursuit of a fair and timely resolution.
As a neutral, Margot has the breadth of perspective that comes from having worn “all of the hats” represented at the negotiating table.
Margot takes a direct and compassionate approach to the matters she is charged with. She understands that litigation can involve many aspects, from the intensely personal to the purely commercial. Margot deeply respects the process of mediation and arbitration, as well as the parties and counsel involved and is always learning something new.
Margot splits her time between Toronto and Halifax and is fully at home in both places (as well as in her hometown of Flatlands in northern New Brunswick - oui, elle parle assez bien le français intermédiaire). She enjoys travel, music, cooking, beachcombing, boating, and gardening and is an avid PWHL Toronto Sceptres hockey fan.
